BREAKING NEWS
A major step has been taken toward strengthening Turkey’s localization efforts in defense and aerospace technologies. Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) and ASPİLSAN Enerji have signed the “Aviation Battery Cell Development and Production Agreement” under the Defense Industry Agency’s (SSB) Industrial Participation–Offset Support Program. The agreement aims to boost domestic capabilities in designing and manufacturing aviation battery cells that will power critical defense, aviation, and space platforms.
The collaboration will enhance the energy storage independence of Turkey’s aerospace sector while reducing reliance on foreign suppliers. The locally developed battery cells will be integrated into aircraft systems, offering longer operational endurance, increased environmental durability, and improved safety standards. Defense Industry Agency President Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün emphasized that the program will strengthen the entire defense ecosystem—from main contractors to SMEs—while fostering competitiveness and sustainable industrial growth.
TUSAŞ General Manager Dr. Mehmet Demiroğlu described the partnership as a transformative step in Turkey’s journey toward self-reliance in aviation and defense. He highlighted that the production of local battery and cell technologies not only meets current operational demands but also secures the future of national aerospace projects. This cooperation, he said, represents not just a new production line but a milestone in Turkey’s advancement toward becoming a technology-leading nation.
ASPİLSAN Enerji General Manager Ahmet Turan Özdemir underlined the strategic importance of domestic and qualified cell production, noting that the company will continue to lead the development of critical battery technologies for the Turkish defense industry.
With this agreement, TUSAŞ and ASPİLSAN aim to apply locally produced aviation battery cells across a wide range of platforms—from fixed-wing and rotary aircraft to satellite and space systems. The project is expected to enhance operational efficiency, reduce lifecycle costs, and strengthen Turkey’s competitiveness in global export markets, while also aligning with environmental sustainability and safety certification standards.
