Türkiye is entering a decisive stage in its aviation ambitions with the HÜRKUŞ-2 program. Developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), the new-generation trainer and light attack aircraft is expected to make its maiden flight soon. Designed primarily as a training platform for fighter pilots, HÜRKUŞ-2 has also been equipped with capabilities to provide close air support in demanding combat environments.
Initially conceived solely as a training aircraft, the program evolved to include light attack and armed reconnaissance roles. The HÜRKUŞ-C variant, fitted with modern weapons and equipment, has already undergone successful testing and attracted significant interest, particularly from African nations. This interest has boosted Türkiye’s profile in the international defense and aerospace markets.
HÜRKUŞ-2 stands out with its advanced avionics, cost-efficient operation, and modular design. The Turkish Air Force plans to integrate the aircraft into the 122nd Basic Jet Flight Training Squadron, enhancing pilot training capacity while also strengthening Türkiye’s aerospace presence abroad. This marks an important step in meeting both domestic needs and international demand.
The export success of the HÜRKUŞ-C model further demonstrates the program’s global potential. A successful first flight of HÜRKUŞ-2 will not only mark a milestone in Türkiye’s aviation journey but also open new doors for defense exports. The project reflects TUSAŞ’s engineering excellence and innovation, while underlining Türkiye’s determination to advance its aerospace industry on a global scale.
