BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye’s security agenda has intensified in recent months due to new threats and evolving regional dynamics. The Türkiye-Russia-Iran leaders’ summit held in July had raised expectations for new developments regarding Syria’s future. Following the summit, there was speculation that Ankara might launch fresh operations against terrorist groups in Syria. However, events soon took a different turn when a tourist facility in Duhok, northern Iraq, came under attack and attempts were made to link the incident to Türkiye. This marked the beginning of a new phase in regional security debates.
Recent attacks on Turkish military bases have drawn attention for their use of weapons and tactics beyond the known capabilities of terrorist groups, suggesting the involvement of external actors. These assaults have not only threatened Türkiye’s border security but also highlighted the complex interplay of regional power balances and international influences. As a result, Türkiye is compelled to both expand and deepen its security policies.
The threats Türkiye faces are not limited to terrorist groups. Militia forces supported by NATO allies and neighboring states add another dimension to the country’s security challenges, creating a multi-layered threat environment. This complex scenario requires Ankara to strengthen its military deterrence while also making more assertive moves in foreign policy.
Security expert Kaan Kutlu Ataç underlines that Türkiye is entering a critical juncture amid overlapping regional interests and conflicts. With both high economic and strategic costs, this period demands that Türkiye pursue a resolute foreign policy, ensure border security, and contribute to regional stability.
