BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye has officially updated its procurement roadmap for the Eurofighter Typhoon, significantly expanding the scale and timeline of the program. According to the latest information, the Turkish Air Force plans to establish its first two Eurofighter squadrons with a total of 56 aircraft within the next three to four years. This marks a substantial increase from the previously agreed 44-aircraft framework.
Under the revised plan, 12 Tranche 3A Eurofighter Typhoons will be sourced from Qatar to help form the initial squadrons. These aircraft are equipped with AESA radar systems and are capable of deploying the long-range Meteor air-to-air missile, significantly enhancing beyond-visual-range (BVR) engagement capability. The Tranche 3A configuration offers advanced avionics, improved sensor fusion, and superior air superiority performance, strengthening Türkiye’s deterrence posture in contested airspaces.
In October 2025, Türkiye signed a deal with the United Kingdom for the purchase of 20 newly produced Tranche 4 Eurofighter Typhoons, valued at approximately £8 billion ($10.7 billion). The British government described the agreement as a positive model of defense cooperation among NATO allies. Additionally, Türkiye has reportedly reached agreements with both Qatar and Oman to procure 12 surplus aircraft each. The Omani aircraft are expected to undergo modernization in the United Kingdom before being delivered starting in 2028. With an additional 12 aircraft from Qatar, Türkiye aims to induct 24 Eurofighters into service within a single year, while deliveries of the Tranche 4 jets are expected to begin in 2028.
A standard Eurofighter squadron typically consists of 12 to 16 aircraft. In the first phase, Türkiye plans to establish a 24-aircraft structure before expanding the fleet to 56 platforms. This expansion is expected to considerably enhance Turkish air power in the Aegean, Eastern Mediterranean, and NATO operational theaters.
Training activities have also been scheduled. Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk announced that flight crews and ground personnel will conduct a working visit to RAF Coningsby in the United Kingdom between 24–27 February as part of the initial training phase. This step is considered critical for operational integration.
Meanwhile, NATO interoperability efforts have already been demonstrated in the field. During the Steadfast Dart 2026 exercise on 20 February, a Bayraktar TB3 unmanned combat aerial vehicle launched from the amphibious assault ship TCG Anadolu conducted joint operations with Eurofighter jets. Haluk Bayraktar stated that the TB3 remained airborne for eight hours and covered 1,700 kilometers, demonstrating endurance and joint operational capability. This integration highlights Türkiye’s strategy of combining manned and unmanned systems into a layered and network-centric air combat architecture.
