BREAKING NEWS
The Turkish defense industry is taking firm steps to expand its export network by participating in the Gulf Defense and Aerospace Exhibition (GDA 2019), held in Kuwait from December 10 to 12. Coordinated by the Presidency of Defense Industries and supported by the Defense and Aerospace Industry Exporters’ Association (SSI), Turkey is represented at the exhibition with a strong delegation of 20 companies. This comprehensive participation reflects Turkey’s growing strategic interest in the Gulf region and its intent to strengthen defense partnerships.
Prominent Turkish defense companies including ARES Shipyard, ASFAT, ATA Silah, DEARSAN, DESAN, HAVELSAN, MKE, MilSOFT, Nurol Makina, Ortem Elektronik, Otokar, Otonom Teknoloji, SİMSOFT, STM, TAIS Shipyard, TİSAŞ, TÜBİTAK BİLGEM, Yonca-Onuk and ZSR are showcasing their advanced capabilities. The product portfolio ranges from armored land vehicles, unmanned ground and aerial systems, naval platforms, weapon and ammunition systems to electronic solutions, simulators and logistics support products. This diverse display emphasizes the technological depth and export potential of the Turkish defense sector.
Kuwait stands out as a valuable defense partner for Turkey. In recent years, successful collaborations—particularly in land systems—have strengthened bilateral ties. Otokar’s internal security vehicles and Nurol Makina’s Ejder TOMA units have entered the Kuwaiti security forces’ inventory, proving their reliability in field operations. Through GDA 2019, Turkey aims to broaden this cooperation by exploring new acquisition programs, joint production opportunities and technology-sharing initiatives.
At the Turkish national pavilion, Kuwaiti military officials and international delegations will receive detailed presentations on Türkiye’s defense capabilities. The official Turkish delegation will conduct bilateral meetings throughout the exhibition, laying the groundwork for new agreements and the continuation of existing projects. The substantial turnout from Turkish companies highlights not only the importance attributed to Kuwait but also Turkey’s ambition to bolster its presence in the wider Gulf defense market.
