BREAKING NEWS
The Turkish defense industry continues to strengthen its position in the European market with a landmark agreement involving the GIDRAN 4x4 Tactical Wheeled Armored Vehicle. Developed by Nurol Makina and customized in line with the operational requirements of the Hungarian Armed Forces, the vehicle has been actively serving in Hungary since 2020. Now, a new contract covering 800 additional vehicles marks a significant expansion of this strategic partnership.
The agreement was signed between the Hungarian Ministry of Defence, the Hungarian Defence Forces, and 4iG Space and Defence Technologies in the presence of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Under the new contract, the previously delivered fleet of 106 GIDRAN vehicles will be significantly expanded. While a portion of the new vehicles will be produced in Türkiye, the majority will be manufactured at facilities established in Hungary, reinforcing local industrial participation and technology transfer.
To support this localization strategy, Nurol Makina established Nurol Makina Hungary and formed a joint venture with Rába Automotive. Furthermore, 4iG Space and Defence Technologies holds exclusive distribution rights for the GIDRAN platform in Hungary until 2030, making it the sole authorized supplier to potential users in the country. This structure effectively transforms Türkiye’s role in the region from a defense supplier to a long-term strategic production partner.
The contract also includes maintenance and life-cycle support services for the existing and newly delivered GIDRAN fleet. This ensures operational sustainability and long-term readiness of the Hungarian Armed Forces. The life-cycle support model reflects modern defense procurement strategies that prioritize durability, logistical efficiency, and operational continuity.
Built on the combat-proven Ejder Yalçın 4x4 platform, the GIDRAN offers high-level protection against mines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and side-blast threats. Powered by a 375-horsepower engine and equipped with an independent suspension system, the vehicle delivers superior mobility even in the most challenging terrains. Its modular architecture allows configuration for personnel transport, reconnaissance and surveillance, weapon carrier, and command-and-control missions.
Hungarian officials have expressed strong satisfaction with the performance of Nurol Makina vehicles in service. This large-scale procurement is considered a strategic move not only for Hungary’s national defense but also for broader regional security in Central Europe. The deal further cements the growing defense cooperation between Türkiye and Hungary and highlights the rising influence of the Turkish defense industry across Europe.
