One of the innovative players in Türkiye’s defense industry, Elektroland Defense, has extended its technological footprint beyond national borders, offering advanced bomb disposal robots to several African countries. At the Africa Aerospace and Defense Fair (AAD 2022) in Pretoria, South Africa, the company showcased its cutting-edge systems, marking an important milestone in meeting Africa’s evolving security demands. Göktuğ Türk, Regional Sales Manager of Elektroland Defense, emphasized that the company has established a strong network across the continent, with deliveries already made to Zimbabwe, Senegal, Angola, and Nigeria.
Weighing around 200 kilograms, these robots are equipped with seven-axis robotic arms, enabling them to play a vital role in bomb disposal operations. Designed with adaptability in mind, they are available in both tracked and wheeled models to suit diverse geographical conditions. Beyond the hardware, Elektroland Defense also stands out by offering comprehensive training and after-sales support, ensuring long-term operational effectiveness and reliability for its clients.
The robots received considerable attention at the fair, highlighting Türkiye’s engineering capabilities and technological advancement in the defense sector. Elektroland Defense is also working on smaller, throwable robots for reconnaissance and surveillance missions, while demand is growing for larger unmanned ground vehicles capable of handling more challenging terrain. Already used actively by Turkish security forces, these systems are now proving their effectiveness in international markets as well.
In the near future, many African nations are expected to integrate these robots into their defense inventories, providing a significant boost to regional security. This development once again demonstrates that Türkiye’s defense industry is not only meeting domestic needs but also strengthening its role as a reliable partner on the global stage.
