BREAKING NEWS
Turkey and Hungary have taken significant steps to elevate their defense cooperation through a series of strategic agreements. During Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s visit to Turkey, a comprehensive defense industry framework agreement was signed, marking a new phase in bilateral military collaboration. Sixteen agreements in total were concluded, with major emphasis on armored vehicles and advanced defense technologies.
One of the key agreements was signed between 4iG Space and Defense Technologies (4iG SDT) and Turkey’s Nurol Makina. Under this deal, 4iG SDT secured exclusive distributor rights for Gidran 4x4 armored vehicles in the Hungarian market until 2030. The Gidran 4x4—Hungary’s customized version of Turkey’s Ejder Yalçın armored vehicle family—has already been delivered in quantities exceeding 100 units to the Hungarian military. With the new arrangement, all stages from supply and production to maintenance of Gidran vehicles will be managed under a single corporate group, ensuring streamlined operations.
Local production preparations in Hungary are also gaining momentum. In cooperation with the Hungarian company Rába, assembly and manufacturing of certain subsystems will take place in the city of Győr. The establishment of Nurol Makina Hungary and a joint venture with Rába laid the groundwork for localized industrial capability. Starting next year, more than 400 Gidran vehicles are planned to be produced in Hungary, expanding the current fleet by fivefold. This will not only enhance Hungary’s defense readiness but also strengthen Turkey’s footprint in the European defense sector.
In addition, a second major agreement was signed between 4iG SDT and ASELSAN, aiming to establish a joint venture in Hungary focused on developing remote-controlled weapon systems, counter-UAV technologies, and air defense solutions. This cooperation is expected to contribute significantly to Hungary’s transition toward NATO-compatible defense technologies while leveraging Turkey’s advanced expertise in military electronics.
Collectively, these agreements represent a long-term, strategic partnership that enhances defense cooperation, industrial collaboration, and technological development between Turkey and Hungary, signaling a new era for regional defense dynamics.
