BREAKING NEWS
Thales unveiled the DeepFinder radar family at Eurosatory 2026, a system developed to strengthen Europe's air defense capabilities against missile threats. Built on Ultra High Frequency (UHF) technology, the system provides early warning and precise detection capabilities. The family comprises two main versions: the mobile DeepFinder Tactical and the fixed DeepFinder Strategic. The mobile variant achieves approximately 1,500 kilometers detection range, while the fixed version reaches 5,000 kilometers with a 120-degree field of view.
The DeepFinder system developed by Thales is constructed on a modular UHF block architecture. Software-based integration enables three separate high-performance mobile radars to be combined into a seamless coverage area—a capability achieved successfully for the first time. The system can detect missiles with vertical trajectories, track flight paths, calculate impact points for ballistic missiles, and determine launch locations for hypersonic missiles. It also possesses the capability to detect air targets equipped with low-observable technology.
The radar family addresses a critical gap in existing air defense systems. The current GF 300 fire control radar lacks sufficient range against advanced threats such as maneuvering ballistic and hypersonic missiles. DeepFinder Tactical was designed as a fundamental complement to SAMP/T NG air defense batteries and positioned to effectively support the new ASTER 30 Block 1NT missile. This integration represents a significant advancement in Europe's air defense capabilities.
The DeepFinder family is marketed as a platform capable of detecting ballistic, hypersonic, and space-based threats. The DeepFinder Space variant, also known as AURORE, was developed for detecting, identifying, and tracking satellites and other space objects in low Earth orbit. This multi-purpose design has been configured through software architecture expansion to operate both in conjunction with satellites and independently, enhancing Europe's space situational awareness capabilities.
Within the global defense industry context, radar systems are critical components of air defense ecosystems. NATO countries and allies are developing integrated air defense networks against rising hypersonic and ballistic missile threats. Systems such as Patriot, NASAMS, and Israel's Iron Dome possess comparable early warning and detection capabilities. Thales' DeepFinder family represents part of Europe's efforts to develop independent capacity in this domain and constitutes a strategic step for European defense industry.
