BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye’s defense industry has reached a new milestone in strengthening security and deterrence across its maritime zones, widely referred to as the “Blue Homeland.” The country’s national long-range air defense missile, SIPER 1-D, was successfully test-fired for the first time through the nationally developed Vertical Launch System (MİDLAS). This achievement marks a significant step forward in Turkey’s efforts to deploy independent and advanced air defense capabilities on its naval platforms.
Haluk Görgün, President of the Defense Industry Agency, announced the successful test on his social media account, sharing footage of the launch. Görgün emphasized that the SIPER 1-D, developed entirely with national resources, reinforces Turkey’s position among the few countries capable of launching a long-range air defense missile from their own ships using their own launch systems. He also highlighted the symbolic importance of this success coinciding with the anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Naval Forces.
Roketsan, the primary developer of the SIPER system, stated that it remains committed to strengthening the operational capacity of the Turkish Armed Forces and contributing to the nation’s defense independence. Prior to the SIPER 1-D test, MİDLAS had already been integrated into Turkey’s first national frigate, TCG Istanbul, and had successfully launched the medium-altitude HİSAR-D RF missile. The new test marks a transition into a long-range air defense concept from naval platforms.
This milestone not only enhances the Turkish Navy’s defensive architecture but also showcases the growing engineering expertise within Turkey’s defense sector. The synergy between SIPER and MİDLAS is expected to pave the way for future advancements, enabling more sophisticated defense systems and integrated naval solutions in the coming years.
