ROKETSAN and ASELSAN executives presented Turkey's defense sector's contributions to NATO's production, deterrence, and interoperability objectives during the "Turkey's Defense Industry as a Building Block of NATO's Defense Architecture" panel held at Ankara Palas. Organized by the Presidential Communications Directorate, the Munich Security Conference, and SETA as part of the 36th NATO Leaders Summit, the event addressed the alliance's future defense strategies.
ROKETSAN General Manager Murat İkinci emphasized that Turkish defense industry's primary strength extends beyond technological expertise to include a robust and capable supply chain structure absent in most allied nations. Noting over 3,500 suppliers operating in the defense sector, İkinci stated that ROKETSAN collaborates with more than 2,000 companies to deliver advanced solutions and exports products to over 50 countries. This supply chain network plays a critical role in meeting NATO's rapid capacity expansion requirements.
ASELSAN General Manager Ahmet Akyol underscored the importance of countries' defense budget commitments while identifying the real challenge as converting financial resources into military capability within compressed timeframes. Noting the paradigm shift in defense strategies following the Ukraine conflict, Akyol stressed that technological excellence alone is insufficient. He highlighted Turkey's unique position with its dynamic ecosystem and comprehensive defense industry infrastructure, enabling rapid capability development. ASELSAN's contributions to NATO and projects with allied nations underscore the sector's rapid production and distribution capabilities.
Turkey's defense supply chain structure provides NATO with a significant advantage in addressing current geopolitical challenges. While traditional defense models are characterized by extended production cycles and limited supplier networks, Turkey's extensive and integrated supply chain enables rapid scaling and flexible manufacturing. This structure supports NATO's interoperability objectives, allowing tailored solutions for diverse allied requirements and reducing supply chain vulnerabilities across the alliance.
In the global defense market, companies such as ROKETSAN and ASELSAN have achieved significant advances in missile systems, electronic warfare solutions, and radar technologies. Their development and export of NATO-standard products strengthen the alliance's technological independence and reduce supply chain risks. The capacity expansion goals emphasized in the panel align with NATO's 2030 vision, positioning Turkey's defense sector as instrumental in shaping the alliance's future security architecture during this strategic period.
