BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye has achieved another milestone in aviation technology with the successful deployment of its National Surveillance Radar (MGR) — a fully indigenous system designed to strengthen airspace security and technological independence. Announced by Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır, the system was developed collaboratively by TÜBİTAK BİLGEM and the State Airports Authority (DHMİ) and has completed its first tests at Gaziantep Airport with remarkable success.
The MGR fully complies with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and EUROCONTROL standards, marking a new era for Türkiye’s civil aviation infrastructure. The radar’s primary system can detect targets up to 112 kilometers away, while its secondary system extends the detection range to 370 kilometers. With this capability, Türkiye can now manage dense air traffic zones safely and efficiently without relying on imported systems.
Minister Kacır emphasized that the MGR operates seamlessly with existing air traffic control systems, increasing flight safety and enabling rapid, precise decision-making during heavy air traffic. “The radar can track 1,000 aircraft simultaneously and operates 24/7 in all weather conditions with high accuracy,” he stated.
This project represents a significant advancement not only for Türkiye’s aviation industry but also for its broader vision of technological sovereignty. Following the successful deployment in Gaziantep, the MGR is expected to be installed at other major airports nationwide, reinforcing Türkiye’s commitment to innovation and independence in critical infrastructure.
