BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye continues to advance its defense industry with ambitious projects that strengthen its indigenous production and technological capabilities. One of the most notable of these initiatives is the KUZGUN missile family, developed by TÜBİTAK SAGE, which is set to enter the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) inventory in 2024. Designed under the vision of “National R&D for National Defense”, KUZGUN aims to expand the operational capabilities of the Turkish military with its versatile configurations and broad application range.
The KUZGUN system has been engineered to integrate with multiple platforms, including F-16 fighter jets, unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs), the National Combat Aircraft (MMU), HÜRJET, and HÜRKUŞ. With a weight of under 100 kilograms, the missile offers flexibility, ease of integration, and adaptability across diverse mission profiles.
The missile family features different variants to meet varying operational needs. The KUZGUN-TJ, equipped with a turbojet engine, boasts a range of approximately 245 kilometers, while the KUZGUN-SS variant offers a range of around 110 kilometers. These capabilities enable Turkish forces to extend their strike range and effectiveness during air operations. Furthermore, KUZGUN’s modular design allows for the integration of different warheads, ensuring maximum versatility on the battlefield.
Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır highlighted that KUZGUN represents both innovation and self-sufficiency in Türkiye’s defense sector. TÜBİTAK SAGE Director Gürcan Okumuş emphasized that the missile’s induction into service will significantly enhance the Turkish military’s operational flexibility and deterrence, particularly in air combat scenarios.
Beyond its technical features, the KUZGUN program reflects Türkiye’s determination to develop independent defense technologies and reduce reliance on foreign systems. Once deployed in 2024, the KUZGUN missile family will provide the Turkish Armed Forces with a powerful, modern, and highly adaptable strike capability in future conflicts.
