BREAKING NEWS
Katmerciler has completed the first deliveries of its next-generation Hızır 4x4 Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) armored vehicles under a procurement program by the National Defense Ministry. Designed to meet the Turkish Armed Forces' evolving operational needs, the vehicles have been developed in accordance with NATO standards.
Katmerciler stands as a leading player in Turkey's defense industrial base. Since its establishment, the company has specialized in armored vehicle design and manufacturing, developing various platforms and systems to address national defense requirements. The Hızır series represents one of the company's core solutions for ground forces, tailored to meet TSK's tactical and operational-level deployment needs. The company's expertise spans from vehicle design through production and system integration, reflecting extensive capabilities in the armored vehicle sector.
The next-generation Hızır 4x4 is powered by a 400-horsepower engine and features a 70% gradient climbing capability. The vehicle is configured with three doors and can accommodate five personnel. Beyond its mine and ballistic protection characteristics, the platform incorporates a fully automatic transmission, enhanced maneuverability, and user-friendly driving features. Defense systems integrated into the vehicle have been developed by Turkey's domestic defense ecosystem and are designed to operate in an integrated manner during operations. These technical specifications distinguish the vehicle from comparable international counterparts in its class.
For Turkish defense industry, this development represents a significant step in increasing domestic technology utilization for ground force platforms. The new Hızır 4x4 version, through integrated domestic defense infrastructure, raises Turkey's localization rate in weapons systems. While ensuring NATO standard compliance, it simultaneously demonstrates that Turkish engineering capacity has reached international standards. Such projects enhance TSK's operational effectiveness while providing the domestic defense sector with technology development and production capacity expansion opportunities.
Similar MRAP-class vehicles are represented in the global defense market by systems such as the U.S. Humvee and MaxxPro, South Africa's Casspir, and Israel's Egged Bus. The Hızır 4x4 provides a competitive alternative to these international examples. Katmerciler management has indicated that the vehicles are receiving demand from abroad, with strong interest from friendly and allied nations. The company aims to complete remaining deliveries by the end of 2026 while planning to sign new international contracts. This export strategy creates foreign exchange earnings and technology transfer opportunities for Turkey's defense sector.
