BREAKING NEWS
KAAN, Türkiye’s most prestigious aviation and defense project, has taken a historic step forward with its first flight and the integration of indigenous technologies. Developed with TÜBİTAK’s critical contributions, KAAN is equipped with advanced systems that include radar stealth software, life-support technologies, and explosion-prevention mechanisms. These capabilities make KAAN a strong candidate among fifth-generation fighter aircraft while also reducing Türkiye’s dependency on foreign defense technologies.
At the heart of KAAN lies TÜBİTAK’s domestically developed avionics computer systems, described as the aircraft’s “brain.” These systems were designed to support high-performance operations and ensure seamless integration of mission-critical technologies. On February 21, KAAN successfully carried out its maiden flight, reaching 8,000 feet of altitude and 230 knots during a 13-minute flight — a moment that marked a milestone in Türkiye’s aviation history and showcased the engineering excellence of Turkish scientists and engineers.
A key element of the project is the integration of indigenous weapon systems. TÜBİTAK SAGE is developing domestic missiles and armament solutions that will be incorporated into KAAN, enabling the aircraft to perform both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions with full operational independence. This step will reinforce Türkiye’s defense sovereignty while expanding the combat effectiveness of the platform.
The KAAN program demonstrates not only Türkiye’s engineering capabilities but also its determination to compete at the global level in advanced defense technologies. With TÜBİTAK’s cutting-edge innovations, KAAN is set to become one of the most strategic platforms in Türkiye’s skies, offering critical advantages in future combat scenarios.
