BREAKING NEWS
One of the flagship projects of the Turkish defense and aerospace industry, HÜRJET, has achieved a major milestone in Europe. Spain’s well-established aviation magazine Avion Revue featured HÜRJET on its cover following the signing of a contract under which the aircraft will replace the Spanish Air Force’s F-5 (AE.09) jets starting in 2028. This development marks HÜRJET’s first export success and represents a significant breakthrough for Türkiye in the European defense aviation market.
In an interview with the magazine, the CEO of Türk Havacılık ve Uzay Sanayii (TUSAŞ), Mehmet Demiroğlu, emphasized that the company has become one of the world’s leading aircraft manufacturers thanks to its 53 years of experience. He highlighted TUSAŞ’s end-to-end capabilities covering design, production, testing, and certification, as well as its disciplined production culture that ensures long-term project sustainability.
Demiroğlu underlined that HÜRJET is far more than a conventional training aircraft. Designed from the outset with a next-generation architecture, the platform is fully compatible with 5th- and 6th-generation operational concepts. With features such as sensor fusion, network-centric warfare capabilities, open systems architecture, and a modern digital cockpit, HÜRJET effectively bridges the gap between basic training aircraft and modern combat jets. Its supersonic performance and low operating costs further distinguish it as one of the most capable platforms in its class.
Spain’s decision to select HÜRJET is seen not only as a response to an immediate training requirement, but also as a strategic move aligned with the future transformation of its air power. Fully compliant with NATO standards, HÜRJET is expected to facilitate a smooth transition for pilots to next-generation fighter aircraft. Following its planned entry into service with the Turkish Air Force in 2027, HÜRJET will also support Spain’s new training architecture, strengthening long-term defense cooperation between the two countries. TUSAŞ officials note that discussions with multiple countries and potential partners are ongoing, and Spain’s choice is expected to serve as a strong reference for future international collaborations.
