BREAKING NEWS
Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) has announced a new phase in the flight test campaign of Türkiye’s indigenous jet trainer aircraft, HÜRJET. According to an official statement released by the Antalya Governorship, test flights will be carried out between February 23 and March 16, 2026. The flights will originate from Antalya Air Base Command and will take place over the Mediterranean Sea, stretching from Antalya Bay to the coastal district of Gazipaşa.
Authorities stated that the activities are part of the planned flight test schedule aimed at evaluating the aircraft’s performance and operational capabilities. During this period, increased aerial activity is expected in the designated maritime airspace. It was emphasized that some of the flights may reach supersonic speeds as part of performance validation procedures.
Due to these supersonic maneuvers, sonic booms — described as loud, explosion-like noises — may occasionally be heard in surrounding areas. Officials reassured the public that these sounds will be a direct result of scheduled test operations and do not pose any safety threat. Citizens have been advised not to be alarmed if they hear high-intensity noises during the specified dates.
The HÜRJET program represents a critical milestone in Türkiye’s defense and aerospace ambitions. Designed as both an advanced jet trainer and a light attack aircraft, HÜRJET aims to strengthen the Turkish Air Force’s pilot training infrastructure while reducing foreign dependency. The Antalya test phase marks another significant step in validating the aircraft’s flight envelope, speed performance, and operational readiness.
