BREAKING NEWS
The export of Türkiye’s indigenous jet trainer aircraft HÜRJET to Spain has marked a new phase in defense and technology cooperation between the two countries. Developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), HÜRJET has not only stood out as a successful aircraft export but has also acted as a catalyst for broader collaboration in subsystems, electronic warfare, and advanced simulation technologies.
Within this framework, SDT Space and Defence Technologies, a Turkish company specializing in defense electronics and software-based systems, participated in the World Defense Show (WDS) 2026 held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. During the exhibition, SDT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Spain-based Oesia Group, one of the leading technology players in the Spanish defense industry. The agreement establishes a strategic cooperation framework for the joint development and commercialization of advanced technologies in electronic warfare, unmanned systems, simulation solutions, and missile subsystems.
According to Harun Solmaz, Strategy and Business Development Director at SDT, the export of HÜRJET initiated a positive and dynamic relationship between Türkiye and Spain. Initial discussions held during the FEINDEF International Defense and Security Exhibition in Spain evolved into concrete cooperation opportunities after both sides assessed their complementary capabilities. Key areas of collaboration include the Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation (ACMI) pod, data link systems, electronic warfare solutions, and subsystems provided for unmanned aerial vehicles such as ANKA.
Oesia’s expertise in smart vision systems, secure tactical communications, and UAV navigation technologies will be integrated with SDT’s strengths in training and simulation systems, image and data processing, avionics, mechatronics, and missile subsystems. This synergy aims to expand product portfolios beyond the Turkish and Spanish markets and target third countries with jointly developed high-tech solutions.
Particularly in countries with strong air force structures, such as Saudi Arabia, ACMI pod systems that enable joint training among multiple aircraft platforms are seen as offering significant operational advantages. Through this agreement, both companies intend to enhance their competitiveness in international markets while reinforcing technological independence. The HÜRJET export thus stands out not only as an aircraft sale but as a strategic milestone that deepens defense-industrial ties between Türkiye and Spain.
