Turkey’s groundbreaking HÜRJET program — the nation’s first indigenous jet trainer aircraft — is celebrating two years since its maiden flight. Developed entirely by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), HÜRJET represents a key step in Turkey’s journey toward full autonomy in military aviation and pilot training. Designed to replace foreign jet trainers, HÜRJET will prepare Turkish pilots for next-generation aircraft such as the F-16 and MMU/KAAN.
In a social media post commemorating the milestone, TUSAŞ CEO Mehmet Demiroğlu praised the engineering and testing teams behind the project, describing HÜRJET as more than a training aircraft. “HÜRJET has proven that Turkey can design, test, and operate its own jet aircraft. It also offers flexibility for future missions such as light attack, close air support, and aerobatic display,” Demiroğlu stated.
Over the past two years, HÜRJET has achieved a series of critical test milestones, including reaching Mach 1.2, officially entering the supersonic flight regime. This accomplishment underscores Turkey’s advancement in aerodynamic design, flight control software, and high-speed testing, placing HÜRJET among the most capable jet trainers in its class. Upcoming phases of the program include weapons integration, mission computer upgrades, and export-oriented configurations for allied air forces.
The success of HÜRJET also symbolizes the broader evolution of Turkey’s aerospace industry. Alongside projects such as KAAN, HÜRKUŞ, Gökbey, and ANKA-3, Turkey is no longer just an aircraft operator — it has become a platform developer, capable of producing manned and unmanned systems across multiple domains.
As HÜRJET marks its second year in the skies, it stands not only as a national achievement but also as a powerful example of Turkey’s growing role in the global defense and aerospace arena.
