BREAKING NEWS
Turkey has achieved another historic milestone in aviation. The country’s first domestically developed, manned jet-powered aircraft, HÜRJET, has successfully reached 1.2 Mach, officially entering the supersonic flight regime. Developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), this achievement demonstrates not only the progress of Turkey’s aerospace engineering but also its determination to establish full independence in defense and aviation technologies.
In its official statement, TUSAŞ announced: “A new record from HÜRJET. Reaching 1.2 Mach, HÜRJET has crossed another critical threshold in supersonic jet training. We continue to push our success in the skies further every day.” This success positions HÜRJET as one of the few jet trainers in the world capable of supersonic performance — a key requirement for modern air force training and light attack missions.
The HÜRJET project was initiated to meet the Turkish Air Force’s need for an advanced jet trainer using fully indigenous resources. Its ability to achieve supersonic speed confirms that Turkish pilots can now receive advanced flight training — including high-performance and tactical maneuvering — within a completely national ecosystem. Furthermore, HÜRJET’s design allows for potential conversion into light attack and close air support variants, increasing its operational flexibility.
Defense Industry Agency President Haluk Görgün emphasized the broader significance of this success in his message: “HÜRJET reaching supersonic speed is not just an engineering success; it is a new milestone in Turkey’s independent aerospace vision. From training to attack missions, we are now stronger in the skies with our national solutions.” Görgün praised the TUSAŞ engineers and test pilots who contributed to the project.
Reaching 1.2 Mach confirms that Turkey has matured in critical aerospace disciplines — including aerodynamic design, flight control software, structural engineering, and propulsion integration. This capability will directly support future Turkish platforms like KAAN, ANKA-3, and HÜRKUŞ variants, while also opening the door for international exports of HÜRJET as a next-generation jet trainer for allied nations.
