BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye’s defense industry has taken another major step in unmanned ground vehicle technology with the unveiling of HAVELSAN’s BARKAN project. Introduced at the 16th International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF 2023) in Istanbul, BARKAN represents one of the latest innovations developed under HAVELSAN’s “digital unit” concept. By combining its expertise in training platforms and software solutions with ground systems, HAVELSAN aims to provide modern and versatile tools for security forces.
According to HAVELSAN’s Product Development and Production Director, Veysel Ataoğlu, field feedback played a crucial role in the development of both BARKAN I and BARKAN II models. The BARKAN II stands out with enhanced mobility, higher payload capacity, and the ability to integrate heavy-class weapons. It is compatible with 12.7 mm weapon systems, 40 mm grenade launchers, and METE missiles, allowing it to take on diverse missions on the battlefield. The vehicle will soon be tested by the Turkish Armed Forces across different terrains, with the resulting data feeding directly into further improvements.
In addition to BARKAN, HAVELSAN is also working on BAHA, another innovative platform designed to operate independently of GPS. Capable of functioning in electronic warfare environments, BAHA can collect intelligence and perform missions even in challenging weather conditions, further showcasing Türkiye’s progress in unmanned and autonomous defense technologies.
Together, the BARKAN and BAHA projects highlight HAVELSAN’s innovative and technology-driven approach to modern defense solutions. They not only aim to strengthen the operational capabilities of the Turkish Armed Forces but also hold significant potential in global markets, as HAVELSAN actively explores export opportunities.
