Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias made significant statements regarding the country's defense strategy during a conference titled "National Action Plan Under Global Uncertainty" held on May 20. Describing the "Agenda 2030" reform program as the most comprehensive restructuring in Greek Armed Forces history, Dendias emphasized that the new era is characterized by a shift from expensive large platforms toward low-cost and intelligent systems.
Dendias detailed Greece's domestic unmanned aerial vehicle production framework, stating that the military has established two primary drone manufacturing facilities and operates mobile production units at brigade level through three-dimensional printing technology. He noted that within two years, each brigade will gain the capability to manufacture drones it requires and enable commanders to reprogram these aircraft and modify mission configurations instantaneously.
Noting current annual production capacity of 5,000 drones, the Minister stated that this figure will exceed 100,000 within the next 1.5 to 2 years and reach theoretical capacity of over 1 million units annually by the end of 2030. Dendias emphasized that possessing this capacity does not mean allocating the entire defense budget to this sector or stockpiling aircraft in warehouses.
