BREAKING NEWS
The GÖKSUR Air Defense System, jointly developed by ASELSAN and TÜBİTAK SAGE, has marked a significant milestone for Türkiye’s naval defense capabilities. During a live-fire test conducted in Sinop, a high-speed target flying very close to the sea surface was successfully intercepted using a domestically developed seeker-equipped missile for the first time. The test was carried out using the GÖKSUR 100-N VLS vertical launch system, demonstrating Türkiye’s growing ability to deploy national missile technologies on naval platforms.
During the engagement, the GÖKSUR IIR Missile was guided in its mid-course phase through the GÜDÜ datalink integrated with the fire control system. In the terminal phase, its next-generation Imaging Infrared (IIR) seeker locked onto the target, enabling a direct hit at a range of more than 11 kilometers. This achievement marks the first successful interception of a sea-skimming target by a Turkish-made naval missile.
The GÖKSUR family is designed to provide point air defense for surface vessels, offering high effectiveness against challenging threats such as sea-skimming anti-ship missiles and cruise missiles. With rapid reaction capability, precision guidance, and an advanced seeker head, the system enhances survivability for naval platforms operating in complex maritime environments.
Beyond its immediate operational benefits, GÖKSUR contributes to the modernization of existing naval missile defense architectures. Its deployment on Turkish naval ships strengthens the defensive shield against cruise missiles, UAVs, and fighter aircraft, reinforcing Türkiye’s national defense posture and supporting a layered maritime air defense structure within the Blue Homeland doctrine.
