BREAKING NEWS
Germany is reportedly considering Turkish missile systems as part of its search for long-range strike capabilities. According to reports in the German media, Berlin has begun examining alternative systems after uncertainty emerged over plans related to the U.S.-made Tomahawk cruise missile. In this context, Türkiye’s Yıldırımhan and Tayfun Block-4 missile systems are said to be among the options under evaluation.
The reports note that Germany has historically acted cautiously in defence agreements with Türkiye. In previous years, the defence trade relationship was largely shaped by Germany exporting systems to Türkiye. However, the rapid progress of the Turkish defence industry has begun to change this balance. German media assessments emphasize that Turkish defence products have gained significant international recognition and are now being considered more seriously within Europe’s security architecture.
The suspension or uncertainty surrounding the Tomahawk plan is believed to be a key reason behind Berlin’s search for alternatives. Following this development, Germany is claimed to have turned its attention to Turkish long-range missile solutions such as Yıldırımhan and Tayfun Block-4. Some reports also suggest that a possible agreement could be announced during the NATO Summit expected to be held in Ankara in July.
The Yıldırımhan missile system is regarded as one of Türkiye’s platforms associated with long-range strategic strike capability. German defence circles are reportedly monitoring the system with interest due to its potential to approach capabilities possessed by only a limited number of NATO countries. Türkiye’s progress in long-range missile technologies is therefore seen not only as a regional defence achievement but also as a development relevant to allied deterrence planning.
The Tayfun Block-4 hypersonic missile, developed by Roketsan, is also reported to be among the systems that have attracted Germany’s attention. According to the claims, Tayfun Block-4 has reached the serial production phase and its launch vehicles are also being produced. Hypersonic and long-range missile systems are considered critical in modern defence planning because of their speed, difficulty of interception and strategic deterrence value. Germany’s reported interest in Turkish systems is therefore closely linked to Europe’s changing threat perception.
The rise of the Turkish defence industry on the international agenda is not limited to missile systems. The operational performance of Bayraktar unmanned aerial vehicles in different conflict zones has brought global recognition to Türkiye’s UAV technologies. In addition, Türkiye’s national combat aircraft project, KAAN, is also being closely followed in Europe. TUSAŞ’s cooperation with BAE Systems and the interest of some European countries in KAAN show that Türkiye is expanding its influence in aerospace and defence technologies.
German media assessments also describe Türkiye as an increasingly important actor for European security. Ankara’s progress in UAVs, missiles, munitions, land systems and aviation projects has moved Türkiye beyond the role of a regional defence producer and made it a strategic force to be considered in European security calculations. For this reason, claims that Germany is evaluating Turkish missile systems could signal a new phase in defence relations between Ankara and Berlin.
However, there is currently no officially confirmed agreement regarding the procurement of Yıldırımhan or Tayfun Block-4. The available information is based on claims and assessments in the German press. Whether the process turns into a real procurement or co-production agreement will depend on NATO dynamics, export permissions, Germany’s defence planning and Türkiye’s strategic evaluations. Even so, the reports indicate that Türkiye’s progress in long-range missile technologies is being closely watched in Europe.
