General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) has unveiled the Gambit Series, marking a major turning point in 21st-century air combat. Designed for the U.S. Air Force and its allies, these next-generation autonomous collaborative aircraft will provide pilots with broader situational awareness, higher precision detection, and the ability to act faster and more decisively than ever before. Powered by artificial intelligence, the Gambit Series aims to multiply the combat power of human pilots, ensuring unmatched dominance in contested airspaces.
One of the standout features of the Gambit Series is its focus on low-cost, scalable, and highly capable unmanned systems. Unlike traditional manned fighters, Gambit aircraft can be fielded in large numbers, offering flexibility and sustainability in prolonged conflicts. With autonomy sufficient to interact and operate alongside crewed aircraft, Gambit represents a leap forward in the “loyal wingman” concept that has become central to modern air warfare.
The series includes four distinct aircraft types. Gambit 1 is an endurance-focused, unarmed sensing platform designed to conduct forward reconnaissance and provide security for manned units. Gambit 2 is armed with air-to-air weapons, giving commanders the ability to engage adversary targets with minimal risk to human pilots. Gambit 3 serves as a high-fidelity adversary training aircraft, helping pilots adapt to flying with and against unmanned systems. Finally, Gambit 4 is a stealthy, tailless flying wing with long endurance, designed to deliver intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and targeting support in high-threat environments.
With over 1,100 UAVs delivered and more than 8 million flight hours of operational experience, GA-ASI has established itself as a global leader in unmanned aviation. The Gambit Series further strengthens this legacy, positioning both the U.S. Air Force and its allies to achieve a decisive advantage in the air domain.
