BREAKING NEWS
Following the TEKNOFEST Blue Homeland concept, Türkiye’s defense industry is stepping into a new phase where naval and air power will operate jointly and effectively over a vast area. The flagship of this transformation is the amphibious assault ship TCG Anadolu, along with its manned and unmanned aerial platforms. However, this modernization effort goes far beyond a single vessel — with the National Aircraft Carrier, advanced UAV concepts, and domestically developed helicopters on the horizon, a multi-layered naval aviation architecture is emerging.
At the core of this structure lies Bayraktar TB-3, the world’s first UAV capable of taking off and landing on a short-deck vessel. TB-3 will enhance reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition capabilities, providing extended operational reach and greater situational awareness for naval task groups. Looking ahead, the integration of TUSAŞ ANKA-3 and Baykar KIZILELMA into the National Aircraft Carrier will redefine the boundaries of unmanned combat — combining stealth, high speed, and heavy payload capabilities to create a powerful deterrent. Notably, Selçuk Bayraktar’s confirmation that KIZILELMA can also operate from TCG Anadolu demonstrates Türkiye’s rapid adaptation to hybrid naval-air operations.
While unmanned systems are taking center stage, Türkiye is also investing heavily in helicopter capacity. The TUSAŞ GÖKBEY program, with 57 units ordered, will bolster the Navy’s capabilities in maritime patrol, search and rescue, logistics, and personnel transport missions. Coupled with new maritime patrol aircraft and rotary-wing assets, this expansion will significantly strengthen the Turkish Naval Forces’ aerial component in the near future.
Defense and maritime experts interpret this transformation as a strong display of strategic intent. With a growing fleet, a vast operational maritime domain, and increasing mission requirements, the demand for both rotary and fixed-wing assets is inevitable. Despite economic and budgetary challenges, Ankara appears determined to deploy a robust and sustainable naval air capability roadmap. Ultimately, through platforms like TCG Anadolu, TB-3, KIZILELMA, ANKA-3, and GÖKBEY, Türkiye is consolidating its position as a regional leader in naval aviation and maritime defense technology.
