BREAKING NEWS
The French Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) has announced the delivery of 16 new-generation VBMR Griffon 6x6 armored vehicles to the French Army. Of these, 13 are configured as troop carriers, while 3 are designed for command and control operations. The procurement forms part of the larger Scorpion modernization program, which aims to renew the French Army’s armored vehicle fleet and equip it with advanced capabilities to meet the demands of modern warfare.
Weighing 24.5 tons and capable of reaching speeds of up to 90 km/h, the VBMR Griffon offers impressive mobility, particularly with its rear-wheel steering system that allows effective maneuverability in confined spaces. The vehicles are also equipped with Remote-Controlled Weapon Stations (RCWS) capable of mounting 12.7mm or 7.62mm machine guns, turning them into versatile platforms that combine troop transport functionality with combat effectiveness.
Under the Scorpion program, France plans to acquire a total of 1,872 VBMR Griffon 6x6 and 2,038 VBMR-L Serval 4x4 armored vehicles by 2030. The program also includes the modernization of 200 Leclerc main battle tanks and the procurement of 300 EBRC Jaguar 6x6 armored combat vehicles. These large-scale acquisitions are designed to strengthen the French Army’s operational readiness and ensure it can face the challenges of future battlefields.
This investment in armored capabilities is viewed as a cornerstone of European military modernization. By enhancing both technology and operational capacity, France is positioning itself to play a stronger role within NATO and international missions, reinforcing its ability to respond effectively to emerging threats.
