BREAKING NEWS
FNSS Defense Systems and Slovakia-based CSG Defence have established Danube Defence Systems, a new joint venture for producing and marketing medium-class armored vehicle platforms, including the KARPAT Medium-Class Tank, in Europe. The announcement was made at the Eurosatory 2026 defense fair at CSG Defence's booth.
Danube Defence Systems will combine FNSS's proven armored vehicle technologies with CSG's industrial infrastructure in Europe, offering modern armored vehicle solutions to European ground forces and export customers. The partnership structure allocates 51% ownership to CSG Defence and 49% to FNSS. The MSM Land Systems facility in Trenčín, Slovakia, will serve as the production operations hub.
Evolving European security dynamics form the foundation for this partnership. The proliferation of precision-guided munitions, the increasing role of unmanned aerial systems on the battlefield, and advanced sensor technologies have reshaped the design and operational requirements of modern armored vehicles. Today's militaries require solutions combining superior firepower, high mobility, and cost-effectiveness—core objectives of Danube Defence Systems.
The KARPAT Medium-Class Tank delivers 120 mm main battle tank-level firepower combined with superior mobility and reduced logistical burden. These characteristics make it a competitive option for nations unwilling to bear the high procurement and sustainment costs of full-weight main battle tanks. Danube Defence Systems will offer KARPAT family variants including armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles, alongside many of FNSS's wheeled and tracked vehicles. The company's complete turret system portfolio will also be included in the product range.
Production operations will prioritize maximum Slovak and European content. Hull manufacturing, power transmission system integration, automotive subsystems, and final assembly and testing will take place at the Trenčín facility. The joint venture aims to position Slovak subcontractors in central roles within the supply chain. As production capacity increases, direct and indirect employment creation in Slovakia is anticipated.
FNSS CEO Selim Baybaş emphasized the partnership's strategic importance, noting that the company has designed armored vehicles trusted by armed forces worldwide for decades. Baybaş stated that transferring this technology to European production and delivering KARPAT's advantages as a locally-based European company represents the partnership's core value. CSG Defence CEO Jan Marinov underscored that this step is decisive for European defense industry cooperation, stating that the two companies' industrial capacity and technological expertise create a unique combination.
