Türkiye has strengthened its maritime surveillance and patrol capabilities with the induction of the first P-72 Maritime Patrol Aircraft into the inventory of the Turkish Naval Forces. Under the scope of the Meltem-3 project, the aircraft—bearing the tail number TCB-751—was officially delivered during a ceremony held at TUSAŞ facilities in Ankara. The Ministry of National Defense announced the delivery, describing it as a significant milestone in enhancing the maritime air power of the Turkish Navy.
Following the ceremony, the aircraft was transferred to the Naval Air Command located in Kartepe, Kocaeli. A formal induction ceremony took place with the participation of Fleet Commander Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu. With the addition of the P-72 platform, the Turkish Naval Forces have gained improved endurance, wider operational coverage, and greater flexibility in maritime patrol and surveillance missions.
The P-72 Maritime Patrol Aircraft stands out with its capability to perform long-endurance missions day or night and under all weather conditions. Equipped with modern sensors, mission systems, and advanced radar technologies, the aircraft will play a crucial role in maritime domain awareness, monitoring sea traffic, supporting search and rescue operations, and strengthening maritime security. These features make the P-72 an essential force multiplier within Türkiye’s naval aviation fleet.
The Ministry of National Defense emphasized that the induction of the first P-72 significantly enhances the operational capability of the Turkish Naval Forces. As additional aircraft are delivered under the Meltem-3 program, Türkiye aims to further bolster its maritime surveillance network and reinforce its strategic presence across surrounding seas, fully aligned with the country’s national security and maritime doctrine.
