BREAKING NEWS
Israel’s Iron Dome air defense system, widely recognized as one of the country’s most important defensive assets, is now at the center of serious espionage allegations rather than battlefield success. According to the indictment cited in local reports, 26-year-old reservist Raz Kohen is accused of establishing contact with Iranian intelligence and sharing sensitive military information that could endanger Israel’s national security. Investigators claim Kohen communicated with an Iranian agent using the codename “Ophelia,” whom he allegedly met through social media.
According to details included in the investigation file, the contact reportedly began in December 2025. Kohen is accused of sending a total of 27 private photos and videos related to the structure of Iron Dome batteries, their deployment patterns, and missile launch procedures. These materials are considered highly sensitive because they may reveal operational details about one of Israel’s most critical air defense systems. Any transfer of such visual or technical information to a foreign intelligence service could affect not only current defensive readiness but also future operational planning and battlefield survivability.
Another striking element of the indictment is the financial aspect of the alleged cooperation. Raz Kohen reportedly shared a digital wallet address as an initial sign of cooperation and received 145 dollars in payment. The file also states that after sending a copy of his passport to verify his identity, another 158 dollars was transferred to his account. Investigators further allege that the exchange went beyond technical military material. Iranian handlers are said to have requested information on Israeli pilots, politicians, and security officials. Kohen is accused of sharing the identities and contact details of certain personnel, allegedly in return for promises of larger payments.
Israeli authorities stated that the leak was brought under control and that steps were taken to limit the security risk. Even so, the case has highlighted once again how modern conflict increasingly extends beyond the battlefield into digital communication, personal data security, and intelligence operations. Kohen is being tried on charges including “assisting the enemy during wartime,” and the case is being viewed in Israel not only as an espionage investigation but also as a warning about the vulnerability of strategic defense infrastructure to insider threats. The alleged leak of information related to a high-value system such as Iron Dome underscores how regional confrontation is now being fought as much in cyber and intelligence domains as in conventional military arenas.
