BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye has achieved another major milestone in defense technology with the successful induction of the F-16 Electronic Support Pod (EDPOD) into the Air Force inventory. Announced by Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır, the system successfully completed flight tests against real radar systems and is now officially operational. Developed under the leadership of TÜBİTAK BİLGEM, EDPOD is designed to detect, identify, and record radar signals from enemy target-tracking, missile-guidance, and illumination systems, while performing high-precision geolocation to support tactical decision-making and survivability in hostile airspace.
The EDPOD marks a significant leap in Türkiye’s self-reliance in electronic warfare (EW), eliminating dependence on foreign-made electronic support pods. All major subsystems and software were developed domestically, enabling mission-specific configuration and rapid updates based on real-time threat data. The program also includes the commissioning of a dedicated Mission Data File (MDF) Preparation, Test, and Analysis Laboratory, allowing constant updates to the threat library, ensuring adaptability to evolving radar environments and regional operational needs.
Integrated within Türkiye’s growing network-centric warfare architecture, EDPOD enables data sharing across multiple military assets, strengthening situational awareness and enhancing coordination in SEAD/DEAD (Suppression/Destruction of Enemy Air Defenses) operations. Its modular design facilitates fast maintenance, reconfiguration, and post-mission analysis, while its resistance to electronic jamming ensures continuous performance under contested electromagnetic conditions.
Minister Kacır highlighted EDPOD as a strategic addition to Türkiye’s electronic warfare capabilities and praised the Ministry of National Defense and Defense Industry Agency (SSB) for their collaboration. The system not only provides critical radar intelligence but also represents a vital outcome of the National Technology Initiative, further consolidating Türkiye’s position among nations capable of developing advanced airborne electronic warfare systems.
