BREAKING NEWS
Defense and aerospace cooperation between Türkiye and Brazil is entering a broader and more strategic phase, supported by a growing number of industry contacts and partnership initiatives. The relationship is no longer limited to direct product sales, but is increasingly moving toward joint production, technology development, and export-oriented cooperation for third markets. This shift suggests that both countries are seeking to build a longer-term industrial partnership that could create new opportunities for their defense and aerospace sectors.
One of the most important aspects of this growing relationship is the cooperation between Turkish Aerospace Industries and major Brazilian aviation companies. TUSAŞ has signed memorandums of understanding with Embraer and Akaer Engenharia as part of efforts focused on possible joint development and production projects. These contacts indicate that both sides are exploring ways to combine their industrial infrastructure, engineering expertise, and manufacturing capabilities in order to create a more integrated partnership model. Such a framework could enable Türkiye to strengthen its position in Latin America while also giving Brazil access to broader industrial cooperation opportunities.
The partnership agenda also includes unmanned aerial platforms developed by TUSAŞ, particularly the AKSUNGUR and ANKA systems. These UAVs are already in service in Türkiye and with a number of export users, making them notable options in potential future cooperation or production efforts. At the same time, Baykar and ROKETSAN are also continuing their discussions with Brazilian counterparts regarding the possible sale of defense products. Bayraktar TB2 is reportedly seen as one of the strong candidates in Brazil’s ongoing armed UAV procurement process, underlining the growing visibility of Turkish defense platforms in the Brazilian market.
Past defense exports have also contributed to the current momentum in bilateral relations. Kale Jet Engines exported its KTJ-3200 turbojet engine for Brazil’s SIATT MANSUP-ER anti-ship missile program, marking an important step in high-technology defense cooperation between the two countries. In addition, CANiK supplied M2 QCB heavy machine guns for use on Brazil’s new armored vehicles. These examples show that cooperation has already moved beyond preliminary talks and entered a stage where concrete industrial and technological ties are being formed.
On the land systems side, Turkish companies are also actively pursuing opportunities in Brazil. Otokar has entered Brazil’s tracked armored vehicle tender with the TULPAR armored fighting vehicle, while also offering the light tank version of TULPAR for the Brazilian Marine Corps’ light tank requirement. FNSS is also participating in the same general area with its KAPLAN MT platform. Taken together, these developments show that the Türkiye-Brazil defense relationship is expanding across multiple domains, from aviation and engines to armored vehicles and missile-related technologies. If current talks evolve into formal agreements, the partnership could become one of the most notable defense cooperation models between Türkiye and Latin America.
