BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye has reached another milestone in naval warfare technology. The Ministry of National Defense (MSB) announced that the ATMACA anti-ship guided missile, developed by ROKETSAN using entirely indigenous resources, was successfully launched from the TCG PREVEZE submarine. The test marks the first-ever submarine-launched cruise missile capability in Turkish naval history, elevating Türkiye to the small group of nations capable of firing guided missiles from beneath the sea.
The live-fire test was conducted in the presence of Defense Industry Agency (SSB) President Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, Navy Commander Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, and ROKETSAN General Manager Murat İkinci. In its official statement, the ministry noted:
“The first live-fire test was successfully conducted within the scope of the project that enables our submarines to launch the domestically produced ATMACA Guided Missile.”
Defense Industry President Haluk Görgün emphasized the significance of the achievement, stating:
“With today’s ATMACA launch, we have verified our ability to fire guided missiles from beneath the sea — a capability possessed by only a few nations in the world. The ATMACA launched from the submarine successfully completed its flight.”
He added that the Turkish defense industry continues to progress toward full independence “on land, in the air, and at sea,” while expressing gratitude to the Navy, ROKETSAN engineers, and all partners contributing to the project.
The “Encapsulated ATMACA”, a special variant designed for submarine use, is ejected within a sealed capsule that surfaces before igniting its engine and flying toward its target. This allows submarines to engage surface threats covertly while remaining submerged — significantly enhancing Türkiye’s “Blue Homeland” deterrence capability.
ROKETSAN celebrated the success with the message:
“We are turning the seas upside down! The encapsulated ATMACA cruise missile launched from a submarine has successfully completed its test. With ATMACA, the Steel Sword of the Blue Homeland, we continue to strengthen our nation’s defense.”
The successful test not only extends ATMACA’s versatility — previously deployable from ships, coastal batteries, and aircraft — but also cements its place as a multi-domain strike weapon capable of launching from under the sea. This development represents a historic step in Türkiye’s pursuit of full-spectrum naval warfare capability and further strengthens its indigenous defense ecosystem.
