One of the most notable steps in Türkiye’s defense industry localization efforts has been the integration of an indigenous Environmental Control Unit (ECU) into ASELSAN’s ASELPOD targeting system. Developed by Anova R&D Technologies with a team of 250 engineers, this system provides critical support to ensure fighter aircraft can operate with maximum precision. By being locally produced, the ECU not only boosts ASELPOD’s performance but also reduces foreign dependency, lowers costs, and increases overall efficiency.
ASELPOD serves as the “eyes” of modern fighter jets within the Turkish Air Force’s inventory. Capable of operating day and night in all weather conditions, it provides high-resolution imagery through its thermal and daylight cameras. Supporting both air-to-air and air-to-ground modes, ASELPOD enables long-range target detection and delivers detailed intelligence. Its advanced capabilities—such as laser designation, multi-target tracking, digital video recording, and laser spot tracking—make it far more than a standard targeting pod.
With the integration of the indigenous ECU, ASELPOD’s mass production capacity has been enhanced, and over 80 units have already been delivered, marking a strong achievement in export markets. This accomplishment highlights Türkiye’s innovative approach and commitment to technological independence in defense, further increasing its visibility on the international stage.
Beyond meeting the operational needs of the Turkish Air Force, ASELPOD is also attracting attention from allied and partner nations. Thanks to its high performance, reliability, and domestic engineering contributions, the system continues to strengthen Türkiye’s competitive position in the global defense market.
