BREAKING NEWS
HAVA SOJ, one of the most strategic electronic warfare projects of the Turkish defense industry, has once again come to the agenda with its test flights. The HAVA SOJ aircraft, equipped with electronic warfare and intelligence mission systems developed by ASELSAN, has reportedly begun test flights over the Black Sea. The platform is expected to provide the Turkish Air Force with the ability to detect, jam and neutralize enemy radars, communication networks and air defense systems from long stand-off ranges.
The HAVA SOJ Project stands out as one of Türkiye’s most important steps toward developing an indigenous airborne stand-off electronic warfare capability. Within the project, business jet-class aircraft are being converted into special mission platforms and equipped with advanced electronic support and electronic attack systems. In this configuration, the aircraft will be able to monitor, analyze and, when necessary, jam enemy radar and communication activities across a wide area without directly entering hostile threat zones.
One of the most critical missions of HAVA SOJ will be to suppress enemy air defense networks before air operations. The aircraft will be able to detect radar emissions, locate threat sources, transfer electronic intelligence to command-and-control centers and contribute to safer mission execution for friendly air assets. In this regard, the platform is considered a strategic force multiplier that provides electronic support for fighter jets, unmanned aerial vehicles and other airborne elements.
The test flights conducted over the Black Sea are highly important for verifying the aircraft’s mission systems, flight performance, sensor integration and electronic warfare capabilities. During this phase, the effectiveness of mission systems at different altitudes and flight profiles, communication infrastructure, data transfer, electromagnetic emission management and mission computer performance are evaluated. Successful completion of these stages will represent a critical threshold before HAVA SOJ enters the inventory.
With the introduction of HAVA SOJ into the Turkish Air Force inventory, Türkiye will gain a much more advanced airborne electronic warfare capability. In the modern battlespace, achieving air superiority is becoming increasingly difficult without targeting radars, air defense systems, communication networks and data links. For this reason, platforms such as HAVA SOJ are not merely electronic warfare aircraft; they are strategic systems that directly affect the success of air operations.
Developed with ASELSAN’s expertise in national electronic warfare technologies, HAVA SOJ is also a critical project for reducing Türkiye’s dependence on foreign systems in this field. Once the platform becomes operational, the Turkish Armed Forces’ regional deterrence will increase, its capacity to achieve electronic superiority in air operations will be strengthened and Türkiye’s ability to act independently in complex threat environments will expand. The start of test flights over the Black Sea is regarded as an important turning point in HAVA SOJ’s path toward operational service.
