BREAKING NEWS
Altınay Defence Technologies has reached a critical milestone in the pneumatic munition release system it is developing for KAAN, Türkiye’s fifth-generation national combat aircraft. The company announced that the design phase for the subsystem has been completed and that the project has now entered the production stage. This development is seen as an important step in the maturation of KAAN’s weapon integration infrastructure. In fifth-generation fighter aircraft in particular, munition release systems play a decisive role in mission effectiveness by ensuring that payloads can be deployed safely, rapidly, and with precision.
In its statement, Altınay Defence Technologies emphasized that the pneumatic munition release system will serve as a critical subsystem within KAAN’s weapons integration architecture. The system is of vital importance for enabling the aircraft to carry various munitions in line with mission requirements and release them reliably when needed. The development of indigenous and national subsystems also holds strategic value in terms of reducing foreign dependency and providing the platform with a more sustainable logistical structure. Altınay’s progress in this field demonstrates that Türkiye continues to deepen its domestic engineering capabilities for advanced air platforms.
Burak Mercan, Chief Executive Officer of Altınay Defence Technologies, stated that the work being carried out under the KAAN program has reached an important stage for the company. Mercan said they are proud to move from the design process to the production phase in the pneumatic munition release systems developed for the national combat aircraft. This statement points not only to the start of manufacturing, but also to a certain level of maturity achieved in system engineering, verification processes, and integration capability. In defense programs, entering the production stage is widely regarded as one of the key indicators that design validation and project scheduling are progressing successfully.
In addition, Altınay announced that it has completed the Iron Bird test infrastructure, regarded as one of the most complex test environments in the aviation sector, and brought it to the acceptance phase. The Iron Bird infrastructure stands out as a critical engineering platform that enables avionics, mechanical systems, and other aircraft subsystems to be tested in an environment closely replicating real flight conditions. Such test platforms are highly important for identifying integration problems before flight, verifying subsystem interoperability, and improving overall platform reliability. In a next-generation fighter program such as KAAN, the activation of Iron Bird-type test facilities is considered one of the most significant elements strengthening the technical robustness of the development process.
Altınay Defence Technologies continues to contribute to Türkiye’s technological independence in the defense industry through indigenous subsystems developed for land, air, and naval platforms. The systems developed by the company are being integrated into domestic defense projects aimed at enhancing the operational capabilities of the Turkish Armed Forces. The latest progress achieved in the pneumatic munition release system for KAAN, along with the Iron Bird test infrastructure reaching the acceptance stage, shows that Türkiye is building a strong domestic ecosystem not only in platform production but also in the critical subsystems that sustain these advanced systems.
