BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye’s defense industry has achieved another groundbreaking milestone with the IHA-122, a supersonic, air-launched ballistic missile that currently has no direct equivalent in the world. Designed by ROKETSAN and integrated onto Baykar’s TB-3 UAV, the IHA-122 represents the fusion of Türkiye’s unmanned aerial system expertise with advanced missile technology. According to Selçuk Bayraktar, the missile can reach speeds nearly four times the speed of sound and altitudes of 100,000 feet—an achievement that makes Türkiye the only country capable of launching such a system from a UAV platform.
The IHA-122 stands out with its high-speed maneuverability, sub-meter precision guidance, and supersonic impact velocity, enabling it to evade sophisticated air defense networks. Classified as an “air-launched ballistic missile,” it gives Türkiye the ability to strike targets far beyond visual range while minimizing exposure to enemy countermeasures. The missile’s efficient production process and relatively low cost also make it highly scalable—addressing the global challenge of maintaining affordable yet effective munitions for sustained operations, as seen in recent conflicts such as Ukraine and the Middle East.
Tactically, the IHA-122 expands Türkiye’s capability set across multiple domains. It can target enemy air defense systems, critical infrastructure, and naval assets, offering flexibility and rapid-response options in both land and maritime missions. In a 2025 test, a TB-3 UAV successfully launched an IHA-122 missile, striking a sea target over 50 kilometers away—demonstrating the weapon’s real-world precision and lethality. The missile’s versatility positions it as a game-changer for Türkiye’s expanding Blue Homeland (Mavi Vatan) doctrine, where UAV-launched standoff weapons extend naval and air operational reach.
ROKETSAN’s ongoing work on the IHA-300, featuring a next-generation propulsion and fuel system capable of ranges exceeding 500 kilometers, points to the continued evolution of this missile family. Together, these systems represent Türkiye’s growing ability to independently design, produce, and deploy high-speed, high-impact precision weapons—solidifying its place among the world’s advanced defense producers.
