Under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, a critical defense industry meeting was held at the Presidential Complex, where major decisions were made to further strengthen Türkiye’s defense capabilities. The meeting resulted in the approval of 25 different projects, many of which focus on advancing indigenous systems for the Turkish Armed Forces and security units.
One of the key outcomes was the decision to begin new mass production phases of the Siper, Hisar, and Sungur air defense systems, vital for bolstering Türkiye’s layered defense architecture. Additionally, mass production will also cover several strategic weapons, including Tayfun, Türkiye’s first short-range ballistic missile; Atmaca, the first indigenous anti-ship missile; the TRLG-230 next-generation artillery missile; the Karaok short-range anti-tank weapon; the Gökdoğan and Bozdoğan air-to-air missiles; the Akya heavyweight torpedo; and various munitions for multiple platforms.
The meeting also addressed progress on naval modernization, approving the procurement of the 6th, 7th, and 8th İ-class frigates under the MİLGEM project. It was further highlighted that the Kızılelma unmanned jet fighter had successfully completed its maiden test flight, marking a new milestone in Türkiye’s UAV development. Plans to enhance UAV capabilities, expand modernization of F-16 fighter jets, and develop new electronic warfare, radar, communication, cyber defense, simulation, and logistics systems were also confirmed.
A central theme of the meeting was Türkiye’s determination to eliminate foreign dependency in defense technologies. Officials emphasized that every technology previously acquired abroad must be developed domestically. Under the vision of the “Century of Türkiye”, the country aims to achieve groundbreaking advancements in the defense sector, ensuring the continued design, development, and production of indigenous systems despite external challenges.
