BREAKING NEWS
SİPER Product-2 successfully demonstrated in-flight target switching capability during the test for the first time. Haluk Görgün, Head of the Presidency of Defense Industries, stated in a social media announcement that critical capabilities continue to be added to Turkey's national air and missile defense systems. According to the test results, the system engaged and destroyed a new target updated mid-flight after being fired at an initial target, demonstrating agility and effectiveness once again.
ROKETSAN stated in its announcement that SİPER Product-2 provides agile response to changing scenarios in the airspace. The system strengthens the effectiveness of the Steel Dome through advanced capabilities developed against evolving threat scenarios and increases operational flexibility in air defense. ASELSAN's statement highlighted that Turkey's layered air defense capability achieved another critical success with the long-range air defense system SİPER 2. Test teams confirmed successful engagement against targets transiting near the sea, and validated engagement and firing against the first target, followed by target switching to a second target, mid-course guidance, and terminal guidance capabilities.
SİPER project stands as a cornerstone of Turkey's independent defense industry vision. Approximately 1,000 subcontractor firms within the project develop their capabilities within the national ecosystem. These companies ensure the success of defense industry projects through acquired capabilities and qualified human resources. The Presidency of Defense Industries, ASELSAN, ROKETSAN, and TÜBİTAK SAGE coordinate their efforts throughout the SİPER Product-2 development process.
Long-range air defense systems represent critical components of modern air defense architecture. The in-flight target switching capability of SİPER Product-2 requires application of advanced guidance and control technologies in system design. Such capabilities demand integration of radar and sensor systems, real-time data processing, and missile dynamics across multiple disciplines. According to the test results, successful execution of mid-course and terminal guidance capabilities indicates the system's technical maturity.
Air defense systems worldwide demonstrate advancement in operational flexibility and multi-target engagement capabilities. SİPER Product-2's in-flight target switching capability adds a new dimension to Turkey's layered air defense strategy. The system strengthens the Steel Dome's effectiveness by operating in conjunction with short and medium-range air defense systems. As a system with high localization rates, the project reinforces Turkey's independence in defense technology.
