eveloped by ASELSAN and known internationally as the SMASH product family and domestically as MUHAFIZ, the Remote Controlled Stabilized Weapon Systems continue to strengthen the defensive capabilities of naval platforms worldwide. Offered in multiple calibers including 30 mm, 25 mm and 12.7 mm, the SMASH family provides high-precision firepower with advanced stabilization, ensuring effective engagement even under harsh and dynamic sea conditions.
The system can be easily integrated into a wide range of platforms such as warships, coast guard vessels and unmanned surface vehicles. Thanks to its independently stabilized director mounted on the turret, MUHAFIZ maintains a stable line of sight on targets even while the platform is in motion, delivering a high first-round hit probability. Integrated thermal cameras, daylight TV cameras and laser rangefinders enable reliable target detection and identification day and night, even in poor weather and low-visibility environments.
MUHAFIZ systems are widely used in missions including asymmetric threat response, counter-terrorism, anti-smuggling operations, coastal security and air defense. The system has also demonstrated its effectiveness when integrated into electronically capable unmanned surface vehicles, successfully completing live-fire tests. With exports to countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia, and recent additions from Europe, the total number of export destinations has reached 17.
ASELSAN is currently working on next-generation SMASH systems by incorporating artificial intelligence–supported autonomous functions, advanced decision-support mechanisms and improved human–machine interaction. Planned enhancements include automatic detection, classification and prioritization of surface and aerial targets—particularly kamikaze unmanned aerial and surface vehicles—using advanced image processing technologies. Additional developments focus on longer-range and higher-precision sighting systems, smart ammunition for improved counter-drone swarm defense, networked operation of multiple SMASH systems to create a shared defense layer, and lightweight, low-profile turrets suitable for smaller unmanned naval platforms.
