Turkey’s leading defense technology company HAVELSAN has achieved a major milestone in its Ship Data Distribution System (GVDS) project, a critical component for naval platforms. The company has successfully nationalized all previously imported commercial-type electronic boards, marking a significant leap toward complete technological independence in maritime defense systems.
The latest GVDS unit, designed with fully indigenous electronic boards developed by HAVELSAN engineers, has passed the Factory Acceptance Test for MİLGEM-6 with a perfect score and received an “A” grade. This milestone not only validates the performance of HAVELSAN’s hardware design but also confirms the optimal operation of Real-Time VxWorks operating system drivers on the new locally produced hardware.
The GVDS acts as the “nervous system” of naval vessels, enabling the secure collection and distribution of data from onboard sensors, weapon systems, and operational subsystems. With the complete localization of its electronic components, HAVELSAN has eliminated foreign dependency in one of the most critical elements of Turkey’s naval command infrastructure.
HAVELSAN General Manager Mehmet Akif Nacar emphasized that this success was made possible through the strong support of the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), Ministry of National Defense, and Turkish Naval Forces Command. He expressed gratitude to the engineers, technicians, and production teams who contributed to the achievement.
HAVELSAN also announced that its Platform Data Distribution Systems product family continues to expand with systems such as the Submarine Information Distribution System and the upcoming Peace Eagle (BK) Mission Computing Systems (MCS) hardware. These developments highlight HAVELSAN’s growing expertise in integrated platform electronics across sea, land, and air domains.
