BREAKING NEWS
ASELSAN, Türkiye’s leading defense electronics company, has signed a major high-value contract that will strengthen the country’s air defense capabilities. A new agreement worth €780 million was signed between ASELSAN and the Presidency of Defense Industries for the procurement of air defense systems. According to the company’s statement to the Public Disclosure Platform, deliveries under the contract will take place between 2028 and 2032.
The agreement is considered an important step in strengthening Türkiye’s multi-layered air defense architecture. In the modern battlefield, effective defense against different threats such as aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, UAVs, UCAVs, kamikaze drones and rockets requires radar, command-and-control, fire-control, communication and missile systems to operate in an integrated structure. ASELSAN’s radar, sensor, command-and-control and fire-control solutions play a critical role in reinforcing Türkiye’s air defense shield.
The size of the €780 million contract shows that air defense systems remain among Türkiye’s top defense priorities. In recent years, the diversification of aerial threats and the rapid spread of unmanned systems and long-range precision weapons have pushed countries to increase their investments in air defense. Türkiye is also accelerating its goal of establishing its own defense architecture with domestic and national systems.
ASELSAN’s contribution in this field is not limited to hardware production. The company also develops critical software and electronic infrastructures for target detection, tracking, identification, threat evaluation, engagement planning and command-and-control in air defense systems. These capabilities allow systems operating at different altitude and range layers to work in harmony within the same network. In this way, Türkiye is moving toward an integrated and network-centric air defense structure rather than relying on individual systems.
The delivery schedule covering the 2028-2032 period shows that the contract is part of a long-term and strategic procurement plan. During this process, ASELSAN’s production capacity, subcontractor ecosystem, engineering infrastructure and testing-verification capabilities will be used extensively. The project is also expected to create new business volume for local defense companies while contributing to high-technology production and qualified employment.
This agreement further strengthens ASELSAN’s growing business portfolio alongside its recent export and domestic procurement contracts. The company’s experience in radar, air defense, electro-optical, communication and command-control systems has made it one of the most critical organizations in Türkiye’s defense electronics sector. The €780 million contract signed with SSB stands out as a strategic development both for increasing the Turkish Armed Forces’ air defense capabilities and for supporting Türkiye’s goal of independence in defense technologies.
