BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye’s ALTAY Main Battle Tank continues to evolve into a more capable and fully independent combat platform, thanks to the contributions of the country’s leading defense companies. One of the most critical contributors is the Machinery and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKE), which developed and produced both the tank’s 120 mm L55 main gun system and its integrated 57T machine gun. These systems form the core of ALTAY’s offensive and defensive firepower, reinforcing the tank’s position among modern main battle tank designs.
The 120 mm 55-caliber main gun—measuring 7.118 meters and weighing approximately three tons—was engineered by MKE using special-alloy steel designed to withstand modern battlefield conditions. Featuring an effective firing range of 3,000 meters, the system is compatible with all NATO-standard tank ammunition. With a firing rate of six rounds per minute, the main gun delivers both precision and destructive capability, ensuring ALTAY can neutralize targets rapidly and accurately under demanding operational environments.
ALTAY’s secondary armament was also designed by MKE. The PMT 76/57T machine gun, named in honor of the heroic 57th Infantry Regiment of Çanakkale, provides close-range defensive strength with its high rate of fire—up to 950 rounds per minute. Weighing approximately 12 kilograms, the system stands out with its accuracy, reliability, and ability to respond quickly to sudden threats on the battlefield. Its integration further enhances ALTAY’s survivability and close-quarters combat performance.
The ALTAY tank carries up to 40 rounds of tank ammunition, all of which are likewise produced by MKE. This ensures seamless compatibility between the weapon system and its ammunition, while strengthening Türkiye’s independence in critical munitions production. Beyond manufacturing, MKE also provides technical support, maintenance, and system integration services throughout the program.
As part of the ALTAY program, MKE has already delivered multiple main gun and secondary weapon systems to the prime contractor BMC. The domestically developed systems significantly enhance ALTAY’s firepower, survivability, and logistical autonomy, while marking another milestone for Türkiye’s rising competitive power in advanced armored systems.
