BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye’s defense industry has reached a significant milestone with the integration of the AKKOR Active Protection System into the Altay Tank. Developed by ASELSAN, this cutting-edge system provides superior protection against modern battlefield threats, ensuring that Türkiye’s armored forces gain a considerable advantage in survivability and combat readiness. With this breakthrough, Türkiye joins a select group of countries possessing advanced active protection capabilities.
The Altay Tank, already notable for its firepower and mobility, experiences a major leap in survivability through AKKOR. The system detects and neutralizes incoming anti-tank rockets and missiles, dramatically increasing the vehicle’s resilience and mission effectiveness on the battlefield. AKKOR’s low weight penalty also helps preserve the tank’s maneuverability, giving commanders greater operational flexibility in diverse terrain.
ASELSAN subjected AKKOR to more than a thousand live-fire tests, reporting a high success rate in threat interception. In addition to AKKOR, the Altay integrates a modern Fire Control System, Electric Gun and Turret Drive System, and an advanced Command, Control, Communication and Information System. These subsystems collectively strengthen the Altay’s “Iron Triangle” of firepower, mobility, and survivability—positioning it competitively among contemporary main battle tanks.
Beyond national defense improvements, this development enhances Türkiye’s footprint in the global defense market by demonstrating domestic capability to design, test and field sophisticated armored protection technologies. ASELSAN’s success with AKKOR underscores the nation’s growing role as a supplier of integrated defense solutions for modern armored warfare.
