BREAKING NEWS
One of the latest notable additions to Türkiye’s defense industry, the TULGA 4×4 has officially entered service after successfully completing its inspection and tactical capability testing processes. Developed by BMC under the Ballistically Protected Patrol and Intervention Vehicle Project, the platform stands out as Türkiye’s first indigenous, purpose-built armored SUV. With deliveries now underway, the TULGA 4×4 is expected to take on an active role particularly in internal security missions. Designed in line with the operational requirements of security personnel, the vehicle aims to fill an important capability gap with its combination of protection, mobility, and mission readiness.
The TULGA 4×4 draws attention primarily through its ballistic protection features. Thanks to its factory-built armored body structure, the vehicle offers a more integrated security solution compared to systems that receive armor as an add-on later in the production process. It has been designed to provide high resistance against ballistic threats, while its specially engineered floor protection increases survivability against threats encountered in operational environments. In this respect, the TULGA 4×4 is intended not only to enhance personnel safety but also to deliver more effective performance in high-risk mission areas.
From a technical perspective, the TULGA 4×4 also delivers impressive performance. Weighing approximately 8 tons, the vehicle still offers strong mobility and maneuverability. It is powered by a 4-cylinder diesel engine producing 250 horsepower and can reach a top speed of 130 kilometers per hour. With a 60 percent gradeability, the platform has been designed to operate effectively in challenging terrain conditions. In addition, its capacity to carry five personnel makes it well suited for patrol, rapid intervention, and security missions. These characteristics position the TULGA 4×4 as a capable option not only for rural deployments but also for urban operations.
Another key highlight of the TULGA 4×4 is its ride and handling capability. The vehicle is equipped with independent double wishbone suspension systems at both the front and rear, along with disc brakes, allowing it to maintain balanced performance on rough terrain as well as paved roads. This configuration improves driving comfort while also contributing to crew safety during missions. Developed in line with Türkiye’s broader vision for an indigenous and national defense industry, the TULGA 4×4 is regarded as one of the new-generation armored vehicles expected to enhance the operational effectiveness of security forces in the field. With deliveries now beginning, the platform is likely to see wider deployment across various mission profiles in the near future.
