BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye and Azerbaijan are set to launch a new chapter in their deepening military partnership with a major joint exercise in Nakhchivan. According to a statement from the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense, the two allied nations will hold a comprehensive field exercise named “Mustafa Kemal Atatürk 2025” from June 20 to 30, 2025. The drill will include troops from Türkiye’s 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade Command and Azerbaijani units stationed in Nakhchivan, carrying out live-fire missions and coordinated field operations.
The exercise aims to enhance joint operational readiness, command-and-control integration, live-fire coordination, and combined maneuver tactics between the Turkish and Azerbaijani land forces. As part of Türkiye’s strategic partnership with Azerbaijan, such joint drills contribute to increased interoperability and regional deterrence, reinforcing the “one nation, two states” defense doctrine that defines their bilateral ties.
In addition to this field exercise, the two countries are simultaneously conducting the “Unshakable Brotherhood” computer-assisted command post exercise, which began on June 12. Both exercises will culminate on June 30, when their Distinguished Observer Day will be held concurrently. This synchronization between command-level and field-level drills highlights the comprehensive nature of military cooperation between the two nations.
Defense analysts note that Nakhchivan’s strategic location makes it an ideal setting for joint readiness and border security operations. The “Mustafa Kemal Atatürk 2025” exercise underscores Türkiye and Azerbaijan’s commitment to maintaining a high level of military preparedness, promoting regional stability, and ensuring rapid coordination in potential cross-border missions.
This upcoming exercise serves as yet another demonstration of the evolving Turkish-Azerbaijani military alliance — one that continues to expand its scope from operational training to shared defense industry and logistics cooperation across the Caucasus.
