HAVELSAN, Meteksan Defense and MKE showcased naval defense technologies during the Nusret-2026 Exercise held at Alsancak Port in Izmir. The exercise runs from October 6-16 in the Gulf of Izmir and off the coast of Karadeniz Ereğli. Alongside Turkish Armed Forces, NATO's Standing Mine Countermeasures Group 2 (SNMCMG2) and the Black Sea Mine Countermeasures Task Group (MCM Black Sea) participate in the drill.
HAVELSAN presented a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) developed with the company's own resources, capable of operating at depths up to 300 meters. Zekiye Bilinç Serintuna, group leader for underwater systems at HAVELSAN, noted that the platform is equipped with sensors and systems for navigation and precise positioning. The system serves both military and civilian missions—search and rescue, mine countermeasures, pipeline monitoring and ship hull inspections. Such unmanned underwater vehicles play a critical role in Turkish naval defense strategy, enabling high-risk operations with limited personnel resources.
Meteksan Defense displayed underwater acoustic technologies, including sonar systems developed for ships and submarines. The company introduced two new products at Nusret-2026: the Submarine and Underwater Vehicle Detection System (SUVDES) and the National Synthetic Aperture Sonar System (MİLSAS). SUVDES is designed for harbor security, protection of critical facilities and detection of unmanned maritime vehicles. These systems support Turkey's localization objectives in the maritime domain; developing sonar technology to NATO standards enhances the nation's independence in submarine and ship operations.
MKE displayed several systems developed for naval warfare. These included the Denizhan national naval gun, the Pirana kamikaze unmanned surface vehicle and the Malaman smart bottom mine, alongside infantry rifles used by naval forces. The exercise involves a total of 20 ships, five aircraft and various unmanned systems. Previous Nusret series exercises, conducted regularly since 2010, have played a significant role in advancing Turkey's naval mine countermeasures capabilities and ensuring NATO standard compliance through international cooperation.
The Nusret-2026 Exercise serves as a showcase for the Turkish defense industry, presenting localized maritime technologies to NATO allies and international military representatives. HAVELSAN's ROV, Meteksan's sonar systems and MKE's naval platforms are developed to levels comparable with U.S. OASIS, French ALLIGATOR and British SEAFLOWER systems. The technologies displayed in this exercise demonstrate the maturation of Turkey's naval defense ecosystem and its contribution to regional maritime security.
