BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye has marked another milestone in its defense industry with the successful modernization of its M60T tanks. The project, overseen by the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), aims to strengthen the Turkish Land Forces’ operational capabilities while boosting the country’s defense autonomy. The first batch of upgraded M60T tanks was officially delivered during a ceremony held in Şereflikoçhisar, attended by SSB President Haluk Görgün, Deputy Minister of National Defense Celal Sami Tüfekçi, Commander of the Land Forces General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, and leading representatives of the defense sector.
The modernization program reflects Türkiye's determination to reduce foreign dependency in critical defense technologies. Known for their strong firepower and durability, the M60T tanks have now been equipped with state-of-the-art fire control systems and other indigenous components developed by ASELSAN. These upgrades significantly improve target detection, accuracy, and overall battlefield performance. With this achievement, Türkiye has also demonstrated its unique capability to modernize American, German, and Russian-origin tanks simultaneously — a feat unmatched worldwide.
This initiative aligns with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s vision of increasing domestic content in the defense sector and ensuring greater self-reliance. By relying on the expertise of Turkish engineers, the modernization project not only enhances the combat effectiveness of the Land Forces but also showcases Türkiye's growing technological independence in the global defense industry.
The delivery of the modernized tanks is a testament to the progress of Türkiye's defense modernization efforts and sets a precedent for future projects. With indigenous solutions at its core, this advancement strengthens national security and positions Türkiye as an increasingly competitive player in the global defense market.
