Türkiye has taken another significant step forward in its defense industry. According to a statement shared on social media by the Presidency of Defense Industries Chairman, İsmail Demir, the first batch of domestically manufactured PMT 7.62 machine guns has been delivered to the Gendarmerie General Command. This milestone represents a critical move in reducing the country’s dependence on foreign defense technologies.
The PMT 7.62 machine gun has been specifically designed and produced to meet the operational needs of Türkiye’s security forces. Known for its high firepower, durability, and versatility in the field, the weapon system will provide the Gendarmerie with a considerable tactical advantage. Its domestic production further underscores Türkiye’s determination to enhance its self-reliance in defense technologies.
İsmail Demir emphasized the importance of this step, adding the message “No stopping, we keep moving forward,” signaling that efforts to expand local and national defense capabilities will continue. This delivery not only strengthens the operational effectiveness of the Gendarmerie but also contributes to Türkiye’s ambition to make its defense industry more competitive on the global stage.
Such advancements are viewed as key milestones in the modernization process of the Turkish Armed Forces and security units. By increasing the share of domestically produced weapons, Türkiye is reinforcing its independence in defense while establishing itself as an increasingly important player in the international defense market.
