BREAKING NEWS
The Defense Industry Agency (SSB) released a statement through its social media account providing a comprehensive assessment of the Turkish defense industry's current capacity, ongoing projects, and international cooperation framework. According to the statement, the sector achieved over 11 billion dollars in defense and aerospace exports in the past 12 months, with approximately 56 percent directed to NATO member countries. From UAVs to jet trainer aircraft, from command and control centers to military software, and from naval and land platforms to electronic warfare technologies, Turkey positions itself as a reliable solution partner for allied and friendly nations across a broad range of capabilities.
The SSB's coordination role serves as a cornerstone of the Turkish defense ecosystem. Under the agency's management, over 4,000 companies are organized around shared objectives. The simultaneous execution of more than 1,400 projects demonstrates the sector's dynamic structure and project management capacity. This coordination mechanism enables effective collaboration across all stakeholders, from small and medium-sized enterprises to large system integrators. Through SSB's defense industry diplomacy initiatives, national capabilities are being transformed into global cooperation networks.
The Turkish defense industry has begun generating high value-added technology-intensive products and services. Export value per kilogram has reached 40 times the Turkish national average, serving as concrete evidence of the sector's advancement in high-technology production. Investments in electronic warfare systems, software solutions, sensor technologies, and platform integration represent the foundation of this achievement. The strategic increase in the sector's export figures strengthens Turkey's position in the global defense market.
The Turkish defense industry has achieved significant milestones on its development path. Beginning with limited capacity in the early 2000s, the sector is now recognized through internationally successful platforms such as BAYKAR's Bayraktar TB2, ASELSAN's radar and electronic warfare solutions, ROKETSAN's missile systems, and TUSAŞ's aerospace technologies. This progress results from increased localization rates and sustained research and development investments. The sector has developed competence in producing products that meet international standards.
In the global defense market, NATO allies increasingly seek reliable suppliers. Turkish defense industry has positioned itself strategically within this context. Western technology transfer restrictions and supply chain risks have elevated the importance of alternative sources. Turkey's geographic location, NATO membership, and expanding technological capacity combine these advantages. The sector's export objectives are built upon these strategic partnerships.
